Health care is expensive and private health insurance is essential, companies by law have to provide this to all their employees, however levels of cover may vary according to your status within the company. Pharmacies generally open long hours and are well stocked with the usual medications and also medical aids/ appliances. Many commonly used medicines such as antibiotics, analgesia, antihistamines are available over the counter without prescription.
Certain medicines morphine, temazepam and those containing codeine are banned in the UAE. If found in possession of these at the airport you will be questioned and unless you can produce an original prescription and an accompanying letter from your clinician explaining the medical reason for such drugs you will undoubtedly be arrested.
