Due to the desert sand soil quality tends is poor in Abu Dhabi and it is expensive to keep gardens in good condition. Many gardens have irrigation systems in place as watering twice daily in summer and once daily in winter is required. Ensure your gardener fertilizes and feeds the lawn and plants regularly.

There are many wonderful plants and shrubs available. Ask your garden centre and gardener for advice re positioning, watering, feeding, spraying etc.

Pest control is essential so you that can enjoy your outdoor living to the maximum, it is worth employing the services of a pest control company to rid any unwelcome visitors!  A yearly contract will give you quarterly treatments with insecticide both inside and outside your property. Mosquitoes can be a problem - various repellants are readily available from supermarkets. Fly Zappers are available from Hardware stores and in the case of mice and rats - rodent boxes are available from pest control companies.

cats and dogs can be a nuisance; these are dealt with through Dubai Municipality, K9 Friends or Feline Friends. 

Weather in Abu Dhabi is very favorable for much of the year (except in the summer months when temperatures are frequently in the mid 40’s) kids can be outdoors for much of the time. Residential areas are generally very safe for kids but street awareness still needs to be instilled.

Kids climbing apparatus, all sorts of play equipment and many outdoor games for the older kids are readily available at any of the many toy stores and sports shops. These provide hours of entertainment for the family.  

Abu Dhabi Municipality offers a very efficient refuge collection system, and recycle units are now located at many strategic locations throughout the city. Thankfully there is an increasing awareness of environmental issues in the UAE.

A window cleaning services is provided by maintenance companies for a small fee and a monthly service is in place.
