Dubai Museum represents past Dubai and the UAE, it displays the wind towers which are the oldest form of air conditioning, a traditional Emirati house with a typical kitchen and bedroom featured and a traditional souk from the 1950s.  Much has been learnt about UAE’s past through archaeological findings and many remnants are on display here.

Many tours are available to give you a true appreciation of then and now.  Several tour companies are at hand to organize desert safari trips. If you feel adventurous enough to drive yourself please ask someone who is familiar with driving in the desert to come along with you. A 4X4 vehicle is essential.

Once in the desert you will see many camel farms, exercise caution when you see camel crossing signs.....  the injury or killing of a camel carries a severe penalty and your vehicle will certainly be damaged.

Camel's milk is readily available in supermarkets in Abu Dhabi. High in protein, rich in fat and calcium it provides a healthy alternate to cows or goats milk (which is also readily available) and is part of every Arabic celebration.

Camel racing is a commercial venture as well as a thrilling hobby…. Nowadays, instead of jockeys (which were traditionally children), robotic jockeys are perched high on the camel's backs, the controller follows close behind in a jeep.

Souks are a lively part of the UAE’S rich culture, textile souks selling many wonderful silks and other fabrics from the east, the spice souk selling every imaginable spice - the aroma as one walks past is absolutely wonderful.

Don't forget the gold souk with its dazzling window displays and the chitter chatter of vendors trying to strike the best deal .

Modern day replicas of the traditional souks such as Souk Qaryat Al Beri ( Abu Dhabi) and Madinat Souk ( Dubai, Jumeirah). Khan Murjan (Wafi) and Souk Al Bahar (Old Town – Burj Dubai) all offer you the entire traditional atmosphere in a far plusher environment.

Jumana – The Secret of the Desert –at  Al Sahara Desert Resort in Dubailand. A colorful lively show set to a desert backdrop depicting Arabian Folklore .
