  • Choose your bank carefully; an introducing reference letter from your existing bank will help.
  • Your employer may also have strong contacts with a local bank and can effect an introduction.
  • Don't cancel your overseas credit cards until you are fully established in Abu Dhabi, as it may be difficult to obtain a reasonable credit limit initially.
  • Set up with internet banking in both your home country and with your new bank in Abu Dhabi.
  • Monitor your UAE account regularly to ensure all the transactions can be accounted for.
  • Keep 3 months bank statements separate from your documents being shipped to Abu Dhabi. You will be unable to open a bank account without them and it may take up to six weeks for your shipment to arrive.
  • Remember some international banks offer specific expat services such as multi currency accounts and international online remittance.
