Abu Dhabi is a great place for children; it is safe, friendly, and offers many opportunities for them to have lots of fun.
Prepare your child well for moving, there are many books available – (Moving house, Usborne First Experiences’) introduces the concept to them and alleviates somewhat the element of fear. Pack their favourite toys/ comfort items in hand luggage to avoid unnecessary distress due to separation. Carry any regular medicines in hand luggage also, have a prescription at hand in case you are asked for it at the airport.
The favourable weather that prevails for most of the year allows kids to enjoy the outdoors. Beautifully maintained parks with designated play areas are located all across Abu Dhabi. During the hot summers which span mid May to mid September, there are lots of indoor play areas and entertainment areas to keep kids entertained and stimulated.
Savour the many kid friendly restaurants that Abu Dhabi has to offer, these offer special kids menus and are very accommodating of any special dietary requirements your child may have.
Nursery and primary education is of a very high standard – high teacher to child ratio, excellent facilities to develop children’s skills, physically, socially and academically.
There are several support groups for kids with special needs and every opportunity is given to these kids through the educational system.
There are many mothers and toddler groups available, which give mums the opportunity to meet other mums and share their experiences.
The child minder concept does not exist in the UAE; families rely on live in domestic help or send their child to a nursery. Live in help allows parents to spend a lot more quality time with their kids and each other.
