Rugby is a popular sport in Abu Dhabi and the UAE, particularly among expats. It receives immense support from the government and from private organizations in the form of sponsorship.

Etihad Airlines are the main sponsor of Abu Dhabi Rugby Football Union.

Clubs run mini and youth sections starting off with tag rugby and progressing to full contact by the age of 10 years. Kids are also introduced to rugby as part of the school sports curriculum.
